1.
I'm waiting for something to make me feel alive I sit by my window, watching strangers pass by And Lord knows it's been so long since I let someone in You were the last time And I'm still haunted, your voice in my head The way that you claimed me, the things that you said And I'm praying for someone to help me forget But I haven't found him yet Lord break me down Take these walls of stone and send them crashing down Make me naked, and shake me to my bones Oh Lord, break me down Well I've reached for some comfort, a warm place to turn To help with the struggles and the lessons I've learned I've turned friends into lovers, so no one gets hurt But I want that fire, I wanna burn Lord break me down Take these walls of stone and send them crashing down Make me naked, and shake me to my bones Oh Lord, break me down

Sins 04:21
The sun shines through the window in the morning when I rise And he's lying there beside me when I open up my eyes And my heart sinks like a sailor, darkness closes in And I know I still belong to him Well I know I still belong to him Now there's shackles on the bedposts and locks upon the doors And he makes damn sure that I know the sins I'm paying for He quiets me with pleasure when I can't take no more pain Then he leaves me in that darkened room again Oh he leaves me all alone again Well he lies to me He says if I give him what he wants he'll set me free And he knows I aim to please Well he's the only one who brings me to my knees Oh he's the only one who brings me to my knees And there've been times in the darkness, I've talked about good-bye He says, you think you want to leave me, well I'd like to see you try If you're fool enough to try and get away from where you are Well I promise you, you won't get very far No, I promise you, you won't get very far Well he lies to me He says if I give him what he wants he'll set me free And he knows I aim to please Well he's the only one who brings me to my knees Oh he's the only one who brings me to my knees So I ain't taking nothing with me, gotta leave it all behind By the time they come a-lookin' oh I know what they will find Well the door is swinging open, there's a blood-stain on the floor And you won't see me 'round here no more No you won't see me 'round here no more No you won't see me 'round here no more

No Lines 04:58
I have cried on your shoulder Oh so many times Seen your eyes how they smolder And felt the place where they touch me inside I've seen your heart broken And I've helped you find your mind And I've held myself open Shown you all the places I hide And when I say that I love you I don't know quite what I mean But I've promised you simple truth No lines to read between And I don't know what I'm seeing in you But I know that I won't look away And I hope that you stay I thought that life was a path of stepping stones And love was a promise you make But I'm finding out it's an unlit road And being certain, well, it don't make you safe And my thoughts are quieter when you're around And oh baby, I like it that way And if you find yourself on shaky ground May my eyes be your resting place And when I say that I love you I don't know quite what I mean But I've promised you simple truth No lines to read between And I don't know what I'm seeing in you But I know that I won't look away And I hope that you stay
4.
I'm gonna miss you when you go I say the same to everyone I know Yeah everyone Cause time takes the best of them away And nothing I can do will make you stay Once you get the urge for going in your blood But they say that's the price that you pay For love I'm gonna love you when you leave I know that you will fill my dreams Oh I know I'll wait till you're half a world away And in the dead of night I'll think of you and pray That you don't find yourself another home But they say oh, the price that you pay Is what you owe I'm gonna miss you when you go I say the same to everyone I know Yeah everyone
5.
Wake up darling it's time to go Road is calling, it wants us home They will try to tie us down If we stay too long in this town Wave good-bye we'll be back again Blowing through on a restless wind Can't you hear its lonesome cry We can't let it pass us by We can lay neath the prairie sky Or build our home on the oceanside And when the tide comes crashing in We will set our sails again Wake up darling it's time to go Road is calling, it wants us home
6.
All my songs turn out wrong The fire in my heart has gone cold And all these days feel the same I'm running and I don't know the way to go Won't you give me a little Something to feel Won't you give me a little Something real All my best laid plans seem to fail Like I'm waiting for that last ship to sail Won't you give me a little Something to do Won't you give me a little Something new
7.
I can't promise I won't fall in love with you And I don't think that I'll survive it if I do I've seen you bring much stronger women to their knees And you don't want to make me beg Don't make me beg, no baby, please I can't promise I won't want you for my own And I know you got that woman there at home But you say one night of pleasure's all you need Well you may do that with the rest But don't pretend you can with me Spare me those eyes, oh spare me those eyes Don't you tell me I'm the best they've ever seen Spare me those eyes, oh spare me those eyes Don't say you love me if you don't know what you mean I can't promise I won't fall in love with you And I think that you'll regret it if I do You'll wake with ruffled feathers in your bed Even the surest thing can change You know there's danger up ahead Spare me those eyes, oh spare me those eyes Don't you tell me I'm the best they've ever seen Spare me those eyes, oh spare me those eyes Don't say you love me if you don't know what you mean
8.
It's always a good night, but then where do you go You thought you got it right, but oh, what do you know Cause the sun is coming up, and someone's in your bed There's an aching in your lungs and a pounding in your head Save yourself Well darkness takes your days, you barely see the sun And every night that falls has got you on the run You're wasting precious time with your head up in the stars But you can lose your mind if you let it go too far Save yourself
9.
The Water 04:09
I want you to miss something in me If ever I'm not around I want you to know that I'm not Gonna go underground And if I run and hide, I always want to be found 'Cause I may not know where I'm headed now But I know where I've been And I know what I'll find if I Walk down that road again If I stay this time, I'm gonna need a friend Oh the air is sweet Summer's coming for me And I can feel the freeze Giving way to the water that runs in me So I won't run for the shadows again To hide the things that I've done I'll make my mistakes on the open stage With the hot lights and the hum I'm gonna sing my song with all the breath in my lungs Oh the air is sweet Summer's coming for me And I can feel the freeze Giving way to the water that runs in me

about

"Break Me Down" marks the debut release from Canadian indie folk-rock artist Joline Baylis. With her rich, warm voice and compelling lyrics, Joline has been captivating audiences for the past 4 years with her honest and stirring performances. For "Break Me Down," she has brought together some of Vancouver's finest to create a lush sound and a firm foundation for the raw emotion and vulnerability of her songwriting.

Recorded at Afterlife Studio (formerly the iconic Mushroom Studios), and co-produced by Kenton Loewen, "Break Me Down" features Loewen on drums (Dan Mangan + Blacksmith, Marin Patenaude), Wynston Minckler on bass (Aerialists, Emily Millard), Paul Pigat on electric guitar (Cousin Harley, Neko Case), Tyson Naylor on piano/organ (Dan Mangan + Blacksmith), and Peggy Lee on cello (Waxwing). The result is an album that feels slightly nostalgic, with echoes of classic rock and laid-back country, while the band plays with a chemistry and inventiveness that yields something altogether new.

"Break Me Down" explores the complexities of love and connection, the upheaval of change and rebirth, and the beauty of enduring optimism.
